Can You Go Tanning 2 Days in a row?

There are times when you gotta look good and chocolaty for a party, but you don’t have enough time to tan. It is in one of these critical situations the question popped up in my mind – Can you go tanning 2 days in a row?

If you ask your colleagues about this, I’m sure they will confuse you. From my experience, I can tell you that most people don’t have a concrete understanding of this topic.

But, you don’t have to lose your hopes.

We are here to help you to give the best answer to your question.

Before we weigh the advantages and disadvantages of tanning for consecutive days for all the tanning methods, here is a brief overview of it:

No matter which tanning method you are using, it is not advised to tan two days consecutively.

Tanning two days in a row means overexposure to either UV rays or to chemicals in spray tan or self-tanners. It is best to wait for at least 3-5 days to get your second tan in the same week.

Tanning 2 Days in a Row Using a Sunbed

For most of us, especially who are busy over the weekdays and prefer tanning over the weekend, sun beds are the best option.

Sun beds, no doubt are an artificial option for the naturally occurring UV rays but have two sides of the picture. Let’s look at some pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Tanning beds are available round the clock. Unlike the sun, you don’t have to wait for them to rise.
  • They’re more efficient as the outcome can be controlled in most cases.
  • They can be used indoors and you don’t have to necessarily get to struggles of finding the perfect spot outdoors.

Cons:

  • Due to the extremely raw and unfiltered UV rays, it may also sometimes pose a health risk for many people.
  • Sensitive skin types don’t usually get along with these tanning beds because of the increased exposure.
  • They’re costlier than the sun.

Can I tan for 2 consecutive days in the sunbed?

Let’s get to the chase now.

Is it feasible for you to tan for two consecutive days in the same sun bed we talked about above?

Tanning beds are sophisticated equipment, designed to mimic the effects of the largest star in our galaxy. They need to be handled with care and precision when it comes to something as delicate as the human skin.

Considering the reasons above, this would be my say on this:

No, you can’t/shouldn’t go tanning for two days in a row using a sunbed. It is the standard practice. Even the avid tanning bed users don’t tan for more than two times in a week.

If you don’t follow our instructions, I guarantee you will find noticeable irritation and problems with your skin. For some, it might be tiny rashes and for some, it can turn out to sunburn too. The worst part is that these rashes can end up as cancer in no time.

I would always recommend a gap of at least 36 to 48 hours between tanning sessions in a tanning bed.

Tanning 2 days Consecutively in Outdoors

Let’s get back to being humans and a part of nature.

The sun is our best source of vitamin D and specially UV rays, which in turn trigger melanin production and help you tan.

However, is it advisable to bathe in it for two consecutive days in a row?

Let’s look at both sides of the picture first:

Pros:

  • When you lie down in the sun, it’s not only UV rays that you are absorbing but other natural ingredients too.
  • The sunlight is filtered through the ozone layer of our Earth, therefore it is naturally suitable and preferred for all skin types.

Cons:

  • The sun isn’t available all the time.
  • You cannot benefit from it indoors, in case you want some privacy.

Can I tan for 2 consecutive days in the sun?

Yes, I can safely allow this for most people. You can tan for two consecutive days in the sun considering some guidelines I’ll leave for you below.

  1. Don’t spend more than 1.5 hours in the sun (If you want to do it both days.) This will not only regularize your daily UV intake threshold but also allow your skin to revitalize itself in the meantime.
  2. The best time for this would be to go around 2:30 in the afternoon. At this time the sun is at its brightest and almost starting to fade.
  3. You might consider looking for a cool spot to lie down, as lying on hot surfaces will irritate your skin (making you nervous about an overdose.
  4. For different skin types, different thresholds apply. I would suggest fairer skin types to allow less time for the contact of their skin with the sunlight.

You should understand that if you can’t follow the above instructions, it is not safe to tan consecutive days under the sun too.

How about Self Tanners and Spray Tans?

When it comes to chemicals like self-tanners and spray tans, the rule is more or less the same.

If you are a spray tan user, you know it very well that spray tan takes time to develop. To be the golden goddess, you have to play the waiting game for at least three days. Getting one more spray tan session in the next day is an overdoing and I won’t recommend you to do it.

The story of the self-tanners also follows the same trend.

Conclusion

Yes, an excess of everything is bad. Tanning for 2 consecutive days is an excess luxury when it has already been proven and suggested to allow a time span in between consecutive tanning sessions.

However, if you want to do it anyways due to your schedule or any other reason, there are always proper ways to do it.

Follow them, be aware and stay safe.

Happy tanning!
